London, 6th February 2022, Queen Elizabeth celebrated 70 years of the throne. No one like her in Britain! Very few in the world! It's a historic but also a painful anniversary. In fact, this year Prince Philip will not be next to her because he passed away on 9th April 2021. "My rock" she has always defined him.
Now Elizabeth II is going to join a very small group of monarchs who have worn the crown for more than 7 decades, and she's the only one still alive. These include famous kings such as Louis XIV of France, the Thai king Bhumibol Adulyadej and John II of Liechtenstein. Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to celebrate a reign longer than the 63 year - Queen Victoria's reign, and the first to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. She also holds the title of the first queen in the world to reach this goal, since the others were all men.
On the occasion of her 70th anniversary as queen, Elizabeth II threw a small party at the Sandringham residence, with some representatives of the local community who gave her the memorial cake, to pay homage to her extraordinary achievement. And The Queen herself cut the first slice. The official public celebrations will instead take place in three months, between 2nd and 5th June.
The anniversary of the Accession day was celebrated on Monday 6th February, marks the day when The Queen acceded to the throne on the death of her father King George IV. The ascent of Queen Elizabeth to the throne was celebreted with 41 cannon shots fired from Green Park, near Buckingham Palace, while another 61 were fired from the Tower of London. There is no mention of abdication at Buckingham Palace: it seems that Elizabeth II has no intention of leaving her place in favour of her son Charles, who, however, has begun to represent her mother in more and more official occasions. Furthermore The Queen, in her message for the Platinum Jubilee, expressed a wish for the future: that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, should have the title of "queen consort" once the Prince of Wales becomes king, succeeding her to the British throne.
